I confess I know you not but will post on this game thread since I am always tickled when someone posts on a game thread I started, and it's only fair I return the favor.
Well, how are things in your corner of the world and of course at Hogwart's? I see the Weasley twins are looking as fit as ever and must say you've got excellent taste in young men if the Wikipedia article discussing the Weasley family's geneaology & background is any indication. Of the twins, would you say you are most fond of George or Percy? I have not read any of the Harry Potter books yet, but my gut leans toward Percy as being a bit more interesting due to his more unusual name...however George is still undoubtedly a very good & respectable Engish name...just a wee bit overused in my opinion.
I am glad you've decided to return to GP and hope you continue to enjoy your time here. I hope this post will be considered long enough to suffice for a letter; I can probably continue babbling about nothing much at all but in consideration of your time I will stop here. You seem like a nice person and I wish you the best for a fun summer ahead!
Kind Regards, SidewaysGlance

Dear Sidewaysglance,
May I first point out dear that Percy, although a Weasley indeed, is an older brother, and not one of the twins. The twins of whom you speak are Fred and George, I know this because of my very sad, extensive knowledge of Harry Potter (though I refuse to watch the films).
I hope my letter is not too pedantic lol, and would like to say that it is nice to see how well you fit into to the GP family.
Sincerely,
Colonel theburningred Esq lol

Thank you for the nice compliment e.g. fitting in. And for clarifying the mixup on the Weasley brothers (quite unintentional on my part; no disrespect to the family or HP fans intended).
I've heard that Scotland is lovely this time of year so I hope you are having a pleasant season. I sense that you are a decent chap so trust you will not take offense if I inquire about something which has bothered me a great deal. I hope that as a native of the area you can offer some perspective. I have not been to Ireland before but when I visited the London area during early portions of the prior two summers, I noted that very few places had air conditioning, particularly outside of the city proper. Although I presume the temperatures there are generally much cooler than the sweltering summers that have been known to kill people where I am from, I still could not believe that many places of business (and leisure, and worship, and accomodation...and dining) lacked not only air conditioning, but also ice. (I can see foregoing one, but both?). Now mind you, one of things I enjoy most about traveling is the challenge to adapt oneself to the diverse conditions and cultures experienced abroard. However my inability to sufficiently cool my body was most distressing....my internal thermometer has been permanently set to "fry" since having a child 4 years ago...The result was that I was reduced to wearing much less clothing than I am typically wear durinig daylight hours, and was obliged to coordinate my work schedule round the numerous cold baths required to stay presentable.
I do understand that your winters are very cold, and although Scotland is more northerly than England, the two are situated near one another so I cannot help but wonder - is Ireland also bereft of mechanical cooling devices? And if so, do your fellow countymen/women accept this as simply the way things are, or do they implement air conditioning into their homes and businesses when they can? I am thinking that if the latter answer is typically no, then most lkely individuals living in that region of the world have somehow managed to evolve to the point of being very resilient to warmer temperatures as well to cooler ones.
I thank you in advance for your consideration of my questions. Don't forget to take a photo of the old man's house en route to your grandparents.
Yours truly, SP
ps -In the unlikely event that your prior reference to pendanticalness was perhaps intended to comment on my own occasional lapse into excessively expressed verbiage, please forgive my favortism of flourishes. Alas, I have come to accept that such verbosity is my natural predilection. Thus despite my enjoyment of casual vernacular conversations, I felt that in the spirit of the thread & in consideration of the newness of my acquaintance with the recipient, a didactical approach was the more prudent option. :p

Sideways!!! How are you Suga,, It's nice to have you around these last couple of months..How is it going in Good Ole Tornado Alley? I'm sure you are having a great time tacking down the lawn furniture this time of year.. and trying to keep that Terrier Mutt of yours on a short leash as to not have him take off like a kite.. What element are you.. does it mesh well with all that wind whipping around? ;) Sincerely, Tru

Dear Spectress,
your preference for Percy is rather strange as he is an immenses wierdo I must say.
SG: I must say that the air conditioning is a serious problem in this country. I mean, yes it is cold outside, but often the temperature inside buildings astounds me. I am always naturally hot and I would love it if more places had air conditioning.
often the temperature inside buildings astounds me.
Dear Burning!
Aha!
You have confirmed what I have always suspected: there is a certain element within the UK citizenry who do in fact have quasi-regular internal thermometers!
Hey...I just realized that you are Scott from Scotland!! Are there many Scottish Scotts and does everyone rib them about being from Scotland or is that considered a very old and lame joke there?
I also see that in my letter to you above I referred to your country of residence as both Scotland and Ireland when it was my intention to just stick with Scotland; can't believe I didn't catch that. Sorry, it was late...no sleep you know...thanks for not making a big issue out of it and getting all sensitive about the nationality mixup like some people would have. :o
And Tru (Happy Birthday by the way)...winds here last night exceeded 70 mph, but terrier mutt is happily intact. I am a definite fire sign but many people who know me well often remark that I am much more consistent with water's characteristics - in their somewhat optimistic views (which I take as a compliment :) )
Adieu mes amis! SG

Dearest SG,
There are many a Scott in Scotland, and contrary to it being an old joke, or a new joke, I have only ever heard it once before, from a German, so I dont really know. It is wierd that other people never point it out.
