If you could change careers today, what would you change from and what would you change to?

I'm recently retired, but I would have changed from investigator to middle school teacher. Probably history.

Hmm I have worn alot of hats.. in this life.. heh..;)
I love nursing.. but I am getting incredibly burnt out as of late.. I just see to much geared towards money.. and not enough towards patient care.. to much corner cutting.. and to much charged to the patient.. and such a push to move people out before they need to be .. to fill the space.
Very tiring.
It has become a monopoly in big hospitals... buying up doctors.. ruining private practice.. since the hospitals refer to their own docs.. crazy times.. Money for us is great.. but not for the physicians.. along with a bunch of insurance mumbo jumbo.. that sucks.

I guess.. If I could.. I would become a full time foster parent.. since i have the room.. just not the time.. not that I could afford to do so.. without working .. but since I'm dreaming.. that's what I would do.. and it would be to foster the bigger kids and teenagers... since those are the ones I have always fostered.

That is a really beautiful wish, Tru...so selfless and definitely a wonderful thing to spend your life doing. And I like Guy's history teacher idea also...I have always loved history and often considered being a history teacher myself except I have no patience for people who don't have an inherent love for history (and most... don't so I would get really ****ed at them and probably not be an effective teacher).

My mind is always changing but of late I would really like to be a travel writer...how great would that be? Getting paid to experience all the noteworthy and small things of other cultures and places, and reviewing it all like some kind of expert? That's gotta be fun.

LOL see we are alike.. I have little patience for people who have no desire to read or learn.. that drives me nuts... I don't understand how someone could NOT want to learn new things.. and soak up knowledge.. just amazes me...Some people are so stuck in their own little world.. and know absolutely nothing about what's going on anywhere else.. and don't even care to know how the world got to where it is today.
Gah!

I don't have a job right now. For me, getting one is very difficult. I have a limited area where I can apply, and with our economy sucking so hard, I haven't gotten so much as an interview. :P

But I really want to become a forensic anthropologist. Right now, there's no plan-b career move, because there's just nothing else that appeals to me.

Besides a fashion photographer. :D

Tru I absolutely 100% agree. APATHY ticks me off more the longer I live - I really think that one word encompasses why I get so frustrated with people in general. Time is limited, knowledge is precious, if you are not ready to live then clear outta my way b/c I don't have time for shenanigans...I definitely know I would get too frustrated to be a reliable teacher!

Regarding careers, another which would be rewarding is a wild animal specialist, as in trainer or zookeeper.

Amen Tru!

I love being a writer, but if I had to I would be an astronomer.
Or maybe even a fashion designer...

See, I hate it the idea that a women can't be both feminine and intellegent.:rolleyes:
Now why can't I watch Shear Genius & then switch over to Nova: Science Now?
Why does it always have to be one or the other?

WHO ever told you you can't be both???
That kind of mentality.. drives me insane.. why is it.. that if a female is sensual.. and feminine.. she is automatically dumb and trampy..
or if she is plainer.. nerdy..or not outwardly sensual or feminine..LOOKING.. then she must be the opposite and a dike... good Lawd at people..

Females CAN be both feminine and intelligent.. who ever gave you that impression needs a leopard pump crammed right up their you know what.
edit: no let me change that.. they need to view said leopard pump as it sashays right over the top of them...and right up the corperate ladder..
hmmm think that whole idea hit a nerve over here?

Art conservator - repair damaged historic items and artwork, in a minimally invasive manner which is as reversible as possible, to allow for future advances in conservation chemistry. One of the most highly trained professions, consevators possess strong backgrounds in chemistry and art history.
